He practically flew through the door, which swung shut behind him with a muted thud.

Eileen finally picked up her knife and fork and resumed eating at a leisurely pace.

Bryan said, “Eileen, if you’re curious about Amoura, feel free to investigate her. But leave the rest to me. I don’t want you to tire yourself out unnecessarily, which is why I haven’t burdened you with all the details.”

Bryan’s expression was serious and sincere. He frowned slightly as he spoke, the emotions in his deep-set eyes unreadable.

His intense gaze threatened to draw Eileen in, to make her agree to anything he asked. Eileen quickly averted her eyes, breaking the spell.
