Chapter 1374
Chapter 1374:
As Raymond walked away, a realization hit him like a ton of bricks. Tonight’s dinner with Bryan and Eileen was a setup!
Bryan wasn’t interested in welcoming him back with open arms; he was trying to get back at him using this opportunity. Bryan had even asked him to book a fancy restaurant, and the meal would be expensive.
Soft, amber lights cast a warm glow down the long hallway.
Eileen, her coat draped over her arm and hands tucked into her pockets, followed the waiter toward a private dining room. Bryan and Raymond trailed behind her. Raymond quickened his pace to catch up with Bryan, whispering, “Mr. Dawson, perhaps it’s best to handle things with your wife privately. This is something only you can resolve; no one else can do it for you.”
“Believe me, I’m not expecting any help from you,” Bryan replied, his dark eyes almost mocking Raymond for overthinking the situation.
A red tablecloth draped over the rectangular table, and fresh flowers filled the air with a soft, pleasant scent. Bryan walked briskly toward the table and pulled out a chair for Eileen. Once she was seated, he slid into the chair beside her.
Raymond, in his usual quick fashion, pulled out a chair for himself and sat down—only to realize he was sitting directly across from Eileen. Awkwardness washed over him, but it felt too late to change seats now. Resigned, he stayed where he was, mentally preparing himself for the tension to come.
Bryan ordered a few dishes he knew Eileen liked, and the waiter passed the menu to Raymond, following Bryan’s instructions.

Raymond handed the menu back with a polite smile and said, “I’ll just have the pasta; that should be enough for me.”
The pasta was the least expensive item on the menu, priced at nearly nine hundred dollars. Raymond thought he couldn’t enjoy the meal anyway, so there was no point in spending too much.noveldrama
After the waiter left to put in the order, Eileen reclined in her chair, chatting with Phoebe using her phone. Phoebe sent her a few recent construction projects for Eileen to review and decide which ones might align with Barry’s “preferences.”
The Meyer family, however, only dealt with large-scale ventures, and even their smallest projects were in real estate construction. A full residential development was far beyond Barry’s capabilities.
The biggest project Barry had ever managed was a five-story, four-star hotel, which took him a year and a half to complete.
Phoebe proposed carving out a single building from one of Meyer Group’s real estate ventures to give Barry an opportunity.
Eileen immediately declined the idea.
“Barry’s little contracting team might seem like small potatoes to the bigger players, but as soon as the bigger players see their interests getting affected, they’ll target Barry and his team. I remember the Meyer Group’s rehabilitation center project is still in limbo, right? Those three twenty-story buildings are sitting there, half-finished. Let Barry and his team handle it. Slash the costs and get it done. The investment is…”
“Minor compared to the boost in revenue you’ll get once the center is finally up and running.”
