Chapter 1375
Chapter 1375:
Eileen wasn’t fully familiar with the Meyer Group’s range of projects. The incomplete rehab center was something Jacob had initiated after taking control of the Meyer Group, planning it as a future retreat for himself. Halfway through, Jacob’s father had found out about it and given him a severe scolding, insisting it was a necessary stop to prevent further losses. In truth, though, he had been more concerned about being mocked. After all, the Meyer family had never ventured into construction, much less retirement homes, and the thought of failure in an unfamiliar field had unnerved him.
Eileen knew about this ordeal because Jacob had been scolded badly and later complained to Bryan while they had been drinking together. Phoebe had no idea about this and asked, “Wait, does that place actually exist?”
“Yes, just go straight to Jacob about it. He needs to fund it personally so that the Meyer Group isn’t pulled into it. Milford won’t suspect anything, but make sure Jacob doesn’t give anything away when Barry’s around,” Eileen replied.
If Milford found out that Jacob was linked to Barry’s project, he would instantly suspect that they were pulling the strings. Eileen wasn’t about to get involved in the real estate business just for Milford, but she wouldn’t hesitate to help Barry if the right opportunity came along.
Without hesitation, Phoebe agreed.
After Eileen finished messaging Phoebe, she glanced up from her phone and realized her plate was now piled high with food. Bryan had sliced the ribs into bite-sized pieces and even asked the waiter to bring her favorite sauce.
Eileen picked up her fork, nibbling slowly, and spoke in a muffled voice. “Feel free to chat, you two. Don’t worry about me. I just want to enjoy my meal.”
“Mrs. Dawson, given your situation, you really ought to eat more,” Raymond said, awkwardly twisting his pasta into strange shapes using his fork.
But how could he possibly enjoy his food now?
“Mr. Dawson, um…” Raymond began. “I couldn’t really do much when I was with the Deleon Group, and I didn’t gather any useful intel. You mentioned a five-hundred—”noveldrama
“There’s no need for that,” Bryan responded curtly.
Raymond was suddenly filled with joy upon hearing this. But before he could fully enjoy the moment, Bryan continued, “You can just cover the bill for tonight’s dinner.”
Raymond was left dumbfounded. The cost here per person easily surpassed ten thousand. He had only spent about nine hundred, but the dishes Bryan had picked for Eileen were each more than ten thousand. A quick calculation brought the total to about two hundred thousand. Coincidentally, that was exactly the amount he had asked for before.
“Don’t feel down. The pay you received for those two months at the Deleon Group is basically your bonus this time. You didn’t walk away empty-handed,” Bryan said as he wiped Eileen’s mouth with a napkin and gently brushed her hair behind her ear. “Keep doing your best.”
Raymond’s lips twitched slightly. “Thanks, Mr. Dawson,” he muttered. It turned out that he had been overthinking everything. Bryan wasn’t really keeping tabs or holding a grudge—he was just finding a clever way to make Raymond pay up.
Raymond said, “By the way, I did uncover something while working for Amoura. She owns two properties. Every other week, she visits a small villa out in the suburbs. It was abandoned for quite some time and sold for way under market value. After purchasing it, she had it cleaned up and restored. I’ve always had this feeling that there’s something hidden inside that villa.” It wasn’t being rented out, and the location was quite remote. What made it odd was how Amoura always kept the place clean, even though she never stayed there—just visited it every so often… Something about it didn’t feel right.
“Is she hiding a lover there?” Eileen asked, her curiosity piqued. “Have you ever gone there with her?”
