Chapter 1380
Chapter 1380:
The room featured a one-way mirror, allowing the people inside to see outside without being seen.
The table inside was repositioned to a corner, and several people gathered around the window, whispering and peering down.
Bailee had heard from Eileen the previous night that she might be able to see Milford today. Therefore, she had come here without a second thought.noveldrama
Jacob and Bryan stood off to one side, talking and occasionally glancing downstairs.
Eileen looked over and noticed Milford in an ill-fitting suit. He followed Barry into the restaurant and approached their table. Eileen and the others could see him clearly from where they were.
Jacob’s assistant had already been waiting for Barry and Milford for a while.
“Sorry we’re late,” Barry said as he was about to sit down.
Milford stopped Barry with his hand and gave a subtle nod to Jacob’s assistant. “Hello, apologies for our tardiness.”
Barry offered an awkward smile and remained standing. “It’s alright. Sit down. I don’t have much time, so let’s get down to business right away,” Jacob’s assistant replied.
Barry took a seat next to the assistant, while Milford positioned himself slightly apart and tuned in to their conversation.
Throughout the meeting, Barry was guided by Jacob’s assistant.
This was the first time Barry was handling such a big project. Jacob’s assistant was thorough, authoritative, and well-prepared, which left Barry with little opportunity to contribute anything.

Once Jacob’s assistant was done outlining the details, he slid the contract across the table to Barry. “I’ve covered everything. Please review the contract. If everything looks good, you can sign it.”
“Well…” Barry turned to Milford for guidance.
Milford took the contract and scanned it briefly before handing it back to Barry.
He said, “We can meet all the specifications. However, I’m curious about two things. How did you find us? We aren’t well-known and mostly do small projects.”
Barry’s operation was modest. He didn’t even possess a business license, and his team functioned more like a private group than a formal business.
Unlike more established contractors, Barry and his team lacked official office space where clients could visit for negotiations.
“A friend of mine recommended you,” Jacob’s assistant answered. He then pulled out a business card.
Barry recognized the logo on the card immediately. It was from a hotel he had previously worked with.
Milford said, “I understand. However, I must point out that based on our current standards, the price you’ve proposed is below the market rate. We are in the process of obtaining our business license. Once that is finalized, we’ll be a fully legitimate contracting company. The price you’re offering would only be fitting for a small private team.”
Before Milford could finish, Barry discreetly kicked him under the table. He feared Milford might jeopardize the deal, so he shot him a warning glance.
