Chapter 1007
Chapter 1007:
He looked at Linda’s sleeping face for a moment. It was enough to know she was safe.
He turned to the nurse. “Make sure she’s well taken care of.”
“Yes, Mr. Flynn.”
Ernest nodded and left the room.
Once in the car, he instructed the driver, “To the sanatorium.”
“Yes, sir.”
Ernest checked his watch again, anxiety flickering across his features. “Faster.”
The hospital visit had eaten into his time—he hoped he wouldn’t be too late for Elissa.
Elissa had been in low spirits lately. Her surgery date had finally been scheduled, only for it to be postponed due to the preoperative examination that revealed a spike in her eye pressure.
It meant more waiting. More time spent in darkness. More uncertainty about whether she’d ever see again.
As evening fell, Laney entered her room. “Miss Holland, what would you like for dinner?”
Elissa shook her head. “Just some bread and milk will do. I’m not really hungry.”
“That won’t do,” Laney protested. “Today’s your birthday. We should celebrate properly.”
Elissa paused. “My birthday?”
Laney nodded. “I saw it on your medical file.”
Now that her caregiver mentioned it, Elissa remembered.

“Right… I can’t see, so I’ve lost track of the days. Thanks for remembering, Laney. But honestly, there’s nothing to celebrate.” Being in a sanatorium wasn’t exactly festive.
“Of course there is.” Laney smiled. “I’ll go order all your favorite dishes — just wait.”
But before she could leave, the doorbell rang.
“Huh? Who could that be at this hour?” Laney murmured as she walked to answer it, still smiling.
Ernest appeared in the doorway, slightly breathless from his haste.
Laney, unfazed by his sudden arrival, greeted him with a knowing smile before raising her voice in mock surprise. “Mr. Gilbert. What brings you here?” Turning toward the room, she called out, “Miss Holland, it’s Mr. Gilbert.”
“Dilan?” Elissa’s voice held a note of surprise. They hadn’t seen each other since he saved her that day.
Ernest’s gaze moved past Laney and found Elissa. “May I come in?”
“Of course,” Elissa said, pausing before adding with a nod, “Please, do come in.”
“Alright.”
She rose from the sofa and turned her face toward him. “What brings you here at this hour? I thought you’d already been discharged.” She hadn’t seen him for days, and the house next door had been unusually quiet.noveldrama
“Not quite discharged,” he replied, stepping closer. His eyes lingered on her face. “I’ve kept my room at the sanatorium. I’ve just been tied up during the day.”
“I see…” Elissa smiled faintly and nodded.
Laney chimed in, “Mr. Gilbert, have you eaten yet? I was just about to order a few of Miss Holland’s favorite dishes from the cafeteria. If you haven’t had dinner, why not join her? It’s her birthday today.”
“Is that so?” Ernest’s eyes flickered. “What a coincidence! In that case, I’ll take you up on the offer.”
“It’s just a meal. No need to be so formal. I’ll place the order. You stay here and keep Miss Holland company.”
“Alright.”
