The Sway and Slide of Love

Chapter 769

And was the man in front of Noelle really her husband? Because they had once been the closest people in the world, he knew everything about her.

That was why Noelle had felt an inexplicable familiarity toward Hendrix before and why she had instinctively wanted to get closer to him.

Sensing her concern, Hendrix asked, "You don't want to leave your mom, do you?"

After a moment of hesitation, Noelle nodded.

"Don't worry. I'm not planning to take you away right now," Hendrix said. "There are still things to deal with in Coppersville. I have to wait until everything is settled before we can go back. As for your mom, we can take her with us when we go back. Don't worry. I'll take good care of her for saving you.

"But you can't just listen to her and marry someone else. You're already my wife. If you marry another man, you'll be committing the crime of bigamy. And more than that, it would be completely irresponsible to me."

Noelle didn't respond.

Hendrix couldn't help but frown when he saw the dazed expression on her face. "Did you hear me?"

Noelle stared at him for a while before finally letting out a soft "okay".

"Then, you know what to tell your mom when you go back, right?"

"Tell her what?"

"That you're not getting married, of course. No matter who it is, it's not happening."

"Got it."

Noelle thought the conversation was over at this point. But then, Hendrix asked her, "And how are you going to explain our relationship to her?"

"What is our relationship?"

As soon as she asked this, Hendrix's expression darkened. "What do you think? Did you not listen to a word I just said?"

"But she thinks I'm Nelly. If I tell her I'm married to you, she―"

"Then, just tell her you can't marry anyone else because I'm the one you like," Hendrix said bluntly.

When he said, "I'm the one you like", his tone was completely natural, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

Noelle, however, hesitated. After a moment, she said, "Aren't you afraid she'll hit you?"

"Do you think she could beat me if I fought back?"

Noelle's eyes widened at his words. "You'd hit an old woman?"

"I'm just saying. Anyway, just tell her that, and don't let her arrange any more blind dates for you. Got it?"

Noelle didn't respond.

Growing impatient, Hendrix tightened his grip on her hand and said, "Did you hear me?"

"I heard you," Noelle finally replied.

Hendrix was satisfied, but he still

wasn't entirely at ease. After staring at Noelle for a while, he sudde leaned down and bit her lip hard.

Noelle hissed in pain, finally reacting and trying to push him away. Hendrix didn't need her to push him. He stepped back on his own.

Honestly, he had wanted to do more than just bite her. But there was no helping it-Irene was shouting outside the door, her voice so foud it felt like she might burst in at any moment.

Hendrix had no choice but to let Noelle go.

Noelle also heard the noise, so she
