Chapter 525 Secrets and Signals

4snoveldrama

Dickson’s feelings for Mateo had started with respect–just like the respect he held for Sierra and Jonathan.

But somewhere along the way, something shifted. He began noticing Mateo more and more. Every time. Mateo praised him. he’d get ridiculously happy.

Then, he found himself getting jealous when Mateo got close to others.

He didn’t realize it was anything unusual–until that one night, when he had a dream…

He’d kept it bottled up for days. The moment he sensed something wasn’t right, he made up an excuse and moved out of the Radeon household.

Since then, he’d been avoiding Mateo. Even when Mateo reached out, Dickson dodged every meeting, which had started to frustrate Mateo.

Mateo had even asked if he had a girlfriend. Dickson hadn’t known what to say.

He’d been holding this secret in his heart for so long, not knowing who he could tell–until Sierra brought it up today.

And he trusted Sierra completely.

“Sierra, am I disgusting?”

When he asked the question, he couldn’t even bring himself to meet her eyes.

He thought he was going crazy. After everything that had happened to him–after how violated and sick he had felt–how could he possibly develop these kinds of feelings?

He hated himself for it.

Sierra frowned slightly. “Why would you say that? Truly liking someone is never disgusting.”

“But…”

Dickson didn’t know what else to say. He looked at her with such helplessness–like he was standing at the edge of a cliff, afraid to fall.

Sierra saw it clearly, and her voice softened.

“Dickson, you’ve done nothing wrong. Liking someone from the heart is not a crime. Don’t think about the past–you are nothing like that monster.”

At her words, Dickson finally calmed down.

He wiped his face and muttered, “Thanks. I understand.”

Before Sierra could respond, he added, “Please don’t tell Jonathan about this.”

Sierra frowned. “He wouldn’t judge you.”

She knew Jonathan well.

“I know!” Dickson said. “I know he wouldn’t look down on me. I just… I don’t want anyone else to know.

“Besides… maybe after a while, I won’t like him anymore.”

Sierra looked at the forced smile on his face and felt a pang in her heart.

It was too sudden. Even she didn’t know what to say to comfort him.

If Dickson were really capable of letting go, he wouldn’t have told her. He would’ve handled it on his own.

But she couldn’t tell him to go after what he wanted, either.

Mateo clearly didn’t have that kind of inclination. Even if he did, the Radeon family wouldn’t allow it.

She’d spent enough time with the Radeons to know how they worked.

Mateò was their only grandson. He was expected to carry on the family legacy. There was no way they’d accept him being with another man.

And Dickson wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he hurt them.

Because of this, Sierra stayed quiet the whole day, barely eating a thing.

Susie had no idea it was because of Dickson. Seeing Sierra’s appetite dip again, she grew anxious.

“You’re not in the mood for pickled radish? Should I make you a cold dish?”

“No, this is fine.”

Sierra didn’t want anyone worrying. She forced herself to eat a little.

When Jonathan got home that afternoon, he heard Sierra hadn’t eaten much. He assumed she was tired of the radish.

“I’ll ask around to see what else is good for this stage.”

“No need,” she said quickly. “That’s not it.”

Jonathan’s sharp eyes instantly picked up on her mood.

He thought for a moment and asked, “Is it because of Dickson? Did something happen with him?”

“Why would you say that?” Sierra asked cautiously.

“Mateo came to see me today,” Jonathan said. “He was annoyed. Said Dickson’s been ignoring him. Called him an ungrateful brat.”

“So, what happened between them?”

Jonathan was too sharp. Sierra didn’t know what to say.

“Can you maybe not be so smart all the time?”

He raised a brow. “So what happened?”

“Nothing”

She had promised Dickson she wouldn’t tell. When Jonathan looked like he was about to press further, she shot him a look. “Don’t ask. I promised I wouldn’t tell. And don’t go questioning Matco either–this has nothing to do with him. He doesn’t know.”

Jonathan thought for a second–and instantly figured it out.

He said. “Far as I know, Mateo’s only dated women.”

Sierra groaned, rubbing her forehead.

Sometimes, living with someone too smart was a nightmare.

There was no such thing as a secret in front of Jonathan Wynn.
