Chapter 604 Their Love Remained Even After the Divorce
Marcus glanced at Wesley, who was holding a basket of freshly cut flowers. These were the flowers Laura had just chosen and picked. Wesley intended to help Laura arrange them once they were back inside, but since Laura had spoken, Wesley didn't dare to refuse.
"Yes, of course," Wesley said with a loving smile. "Marcus, tell me what you need."
Marcus smiled slightly and said, "Dad, I need you to take my place at the company for the next few days. Nat and I are going to choose wedding dresses today, then take wedding photos. After that, we'll need to make wedding arrangements."
He paused before adding, "Dad, Mom, as you know, Grandpa left a will for me. He didn't want me to mourn him. He wanted me to focus on not disappointing Nat. While he was alive, I couldn't give him the satisfaction of seeing me married with children. As a grandson, I failed him."
As Marcus spoke, his eyes reddened, but he quickly controlled his emotions and steered the conversation back on track. "Dad, can you step in at the company for a while?"
Laura's eyes also became teary. She had a soft spot for such emotional moments and couldn't hold back her tears.
She gently punched Wesley's arm. "You should agree to it!"
Wesley immediately nodded. "Alright, Marcus. I'll help you at the company."
"Thank you, Dad," Marcus said, pulling out his phone. "Ethan will assist you."
Marcus called Ethan right away. "Ethan, my father will be taking over my duties at the company. Please cooperate with him fully."noveldrama
"Yes, Mr. Marcus," Ethan replied.
"I'll send you my father's contact information shortly," Marcus added.
"Understood," Ethan responded.
After ending the call, Marcus sent Wesley's contact information to Ethan. He then turned to his father and said, "Dad, I really appreciate your help during this time."
"It's no trouble at all," Wesley quickly reassured him. "These years have been hard on you and your grandfather. It's my fault.
"Marcus, your mother and I, along with your uncles and in-laws, have been discussing your wedding. We've come up with several plans. So now that you have some free time, we'd love for you and Nat to join in. After all, we're getting older, and we're not sure what young people like these days."
Marcus nodded. "Thank you, Dad."
After finalizing the details with Wesley, Marcus turned to leave. He entered the villa and found Natalie sitting at the dining table, leisurely eating breakfast.
Marcus smiled to himself. This was a scene he had never envisioned for himself. He used to scoff at the idea of idle serenity when he occasionally caught Ethan browsing videos in his free time. He thought there was nothing special about such a life.
Yet now, simply watching Natalie calmly enjoy her breakfast brought him a deep sense of contentment.
Noticing his gaze, Natalie looked up and saw him smiling at her.
She smiled back and waved him over. "Come here."
Marcus walked over and quickly sat across from her. "Nat, I've spoken with my father. He'll be filling in for me at the company for the next few days."
"Really?" Natalie smiled. "If Dad is working at Holden Group, who will help Mom?"
Natalie could tell that Wesley and Laura shared a deep love for each other. Wesley had stayed by Laura's side throughout her illness and even went to great lengths to find a cure for her. Over the years, there had never been another woman by his side.
Such unwavering dedication and love were rare. In fact, very few men could manage it.
Natalie had seen her fair share of men. Those with a bit of conscience would accompany their wives during illness and spend money on
treatment, while those who wool.ne
cold-hearted and unfeeling would either refuse treatment or force their wives into divorce. Contént
The worst of them all were those who even poisoned their wives because they saw the sick women as a burden.
Natalie had seen her fair share of wife-killing cases. A husband like Wesley was truly one in a million.
Since Charles was deeply devoted, it made sense that Wesley turned out to be the same way.
Natalie couldn't help but wonder if Marcus would be the same.
Marcus noticed the way Natalie was looking at him and raised an eyebrow. "What's on your mind?"
"Nothing," Natalie said, shaking her head. "Let's eat breakfast."
"Alright," Marcus replied and began eating his breakfast as well.
After a while, Natalie finished her meal and slowly sipped on some milk. "Mom really does love Dad. She cares for him deeply. When she was at The Herbalist's Sanctuary, the pain from the treatment terrified her."
She paused before continuing, "The one who poisoned her was Cassie, Dad's own sister. That connection alone makes Mom shudder just thinking about it. She never knew if Dad would side with her or his sister.
"Dad was likely to try smoothing things over, and that was the last thing Mom wanted. That's why she asked for the divorce-to completely sever ties with Dad."
"You're right. Mom was just too scared," Marcus said. "I get it, and I'm sure Dad does, too."
Natalie put her glass of milk down. "That's why Dad agreed to the divorce. Without their marriage, Mom no longer has to worry about Cassie going after her or about Dad being put in a difficult position."
Marcus nodded. "That's right. Their love for each other was real. Even after the divorce, they still love each other deeply. It's just that Mom was the one to ask for the divorce herself. If not for her, Dad might not have agreed."
Natalie smiled, catching the faint hint of complaint and jealousy in Marcus' voice. "Marcus, we'll be each other's true love, too."
"Of course," Marcus said, looking at Natalie with deep affection. "Nat, I'll love you the way my father loved my mother. Since I don't have siblings, we'll never have the same situation my parents had. As for your five brothers, they certainly won't be the kind of perverts who fall for their own sister."
Natalie glared at him. "Marcus, what on earth are you saying? Are you comparing
my brothers to Cassie?"
Marcus chuckled."No, Cassie's not worthy."
They both laughed. Soon after, Natalie rose to her feet. "I'll wait for you over there.
Hurry up, I've already made plans with Connie."
"Alright," Marcus said, quickly finishing his meal.
Then, he walked over to Natalie and reached for her hand. Natalie smiled softly and placed her hand in his.
Marcus gently squeezed her hand, and Natalie made to move. "Let's go," she said.
"Okay," Marcus replied.
