The Day Our Promise Breaks

Chapter 377

Dahlia's mind was working overtime, trying to keep a lid on the storm of emotions churning inside her. She was a pro at putting on a show, and as she glanced at Wesley, she managed to summon tears to her eyes almost instantly, her voice taking on a playful, teasing edge, "Wesley, let go, you're hurting me."

She tried to pry Wesley's hand away, but when that didn't work, her eyes welled up even more, "What's gotten into you? What are you talking about, life and death?"

"Sandy said you left her alone because you had to leave early."

"I should be mad at you. Sandy's just seven, how could you leave her by herself?"

Wesley looked at the woman in front of him, who was spinning tales without batting an eye. Her smooth talk and flawless acting had him wrapped around her finger.

He did love her, but even his love had limits. She'd tried to frame him, attempting to land him in prison on false charges, but he couldn't just forget their shared history. He thought about Sandy, their daughter, who she'd given him, and that made him want to give her another shot.

He wasn't trying to deceive her; he genuinely didn't want to burn bridges. He wanted to fulfill her wishes. But he never imagined she'd be cold enough to want him dead, even using Sandy against him. Sandy was only seven!

If he really died by Sandy's hand, she'd be marked as a patricide. That would haunt her forever. How could a mother be so cruel?!

Seeing Wesley's silence, Dahlia thought she'd managed to trick him. She was always so sure of herself around Wesley, never really feeling flustered. She believed she could handle Wesley with ease. So she didn't care where they were; all she wanted was to smooth things over with Wesley, who she saw as her loyal follower.

Just like a few days ago in the hotel, Dahlia's hand found its way to Wesley's belt, while her other hand slipped under his shirt with practiced ease. She tilted her head slightly, her eyes sultry, "Wesley~"

This move was always Wesley's kryptonite. He couldn't resist her.

Dahlia's hands were busy working

their magic on Wesley, and her mouth was just as active. Sensing Wesley was still a bit miffed and hadn't immediately taken charge, she decided to up the ante. Hooking his belt, she pulled him closer, poised to kiss him. Contént belongs

Just as their lips were about to meet, a familiar silhouette suddenly appeared in her line of sight. Spotting Charles, Dahlia froze.

Why was Charles here?

But there was no time to ponder. Dahlia's expression shifted in a heartbeat, tears brimming once more, her face a picture of fear, "Charles, help me."

Charles instinctively stepped in to protect Dahlia. In a few swift strides, he

reached Wesley, grabbed his collar, and yanked him away from Dahlia, delivering a solid shove.

"Charles."

Dahlia immediately threw herself into his arms, "Charles, he's up to no good. He drugged me and brought me here, trying to assault me. You can't let him get away this time."

Charles's expression was ice-cold, holding the trembling, terrified Dahlia, his eyes steely as he turned to Evelyn standing in the doorway, "Evelyn, what are you trying to pull?"

Did she call him here to witness Wesley bullying Dahlia?

Hearing Evelyn's name, Dahlia's sobbing paused. She quickly looked up, meeting Evelyn's gaze. Her heart skipped a beat.

Evelyn had called Charles over. What was she plotting? Had Wesley spilled some beans to her? Alarm bells were ringing in her head.

Driven by a sense of impending

doom, she clung to Charles's hand,

crying like a delicate flower caught in a storm, her voice quivering with fear, "Charles, get me out of here, I don't want to stay."
