After her rebirth

Chapter 289

After reaching an agreement with Clara, Brynn left.

Clara was told by the police to go home and wait for further notice, so she also left the station.

"If it's not Brynn, who else could it be?" Clara muttered to herself, suddenly thinking of Katniss.

Who would be most unhappy to see her doing well? Of course, it was Katniss!

Thinking of this, Clara became extremely angry.

She furiously decided to confront Katniss but was afraid that Katniss would go to her brothers to complain, so she held back and eventually gave up.

After going home, washing up, and tidying herself, Clara still couldn't let go of her anger.

Thinking about the slow efficiency of the police, she became even more impatient. She opened her phone and found a text message telling her to check the forum.

As soon as Clara logged onto the forum, she saw the post about Katniss and was delighted!

Seeing people questioning Katniss in the comments, Clara felt a great sense of satisfaction.

"Katniss, that bitch, deserves to die!"

She immediately started commenting furiously under the post, saying that Katniss not only had a bad character but was also morally questionable.

Clara continued to reply frantically under the post.

At that time, Katniss and Maximilian were on their way to a hot spring, driving a black car up a winding mountain road.

After reaching the top and passing through a tranquil forest, they finally arrived at a serene and rustic estate.

After getting out of the car, Katniss looked around in amazement and asked, "Is there really a hot spring here?"

After all, to her, this place didn't look like a business establishment at all but more like an old, long-sealed residence.

Maximilian said in a low voice, "Yes, it's a natural hot spring. I've already had someone clean it up in advance."

"A natural hot spring."

Katniss was surprised. She didn't expect that a casual remark from her would be taken

so seriously by Maximilian, who even brought her to a natural hot spring.

Feeling touched, Katniss secretly glanced at Maximilian.

The two soaked in the hot spring for a while and then had some pre-prepared food in the dining room.

Suddenly, Katniss's phone rang.

She picked it up and was surprised to see that it was Cecilia calling.

"Cecilia, what's up?"

She didn't avoid Maximilian and answered the call directly.

"Katniss, what should we do about that post? People at school are already gossiping about it. Should we call the police? It's getting pretty serious now, right?"noveldrama

Katniss thought for a moment and felt that it was probably time to take action, so she said, "We can call the police and accuse Samantha of slander. Don't worry about it; I'll handle it myself."

As soon as she hung up, she noticed Maximilian looking at her.

Katniss instinctively called out softly, "Maximilian."

"What happened?" Maximilian asked.

There was nothing to hide, so Katniss straightforwardly explained, "Someone is causing trouble on the school forum, accusing me of getting the spot and winning first place unfairly."

"I'll handle it," Maximilian said immediately.

"No need, Maximilian. I'll just call the police."

Katniss didn't want to trouble Maximilian, but he lowered his eyes and said, "Don't treat me like an outsider."

"I-I don't see you as an outsider, it's just—"

"Just that you don't want to trouble me, right?" Maximilian leaned in closer and asked. Katniss nodded, then realized she had fallen into his trap and apologized softly, "I'm sorry, Maximilian."

Maximilian patted her head and said, "It's not your fault."

"If something like this happens again, you must tell me. Even if it's not hard to handle, I

still want to help you. We are family."

Hearing the words "family," Katniss's face inexplicably turned red again.

The atmosphere between them was just right, but the mood was interrupted by the ringing of Maximilian's phone.

He answered the call and listened for a moment before instructing, "Send me the address. We'll go there later."

Katniss heard him say "we" and looked at him curiously.

After hanging up, Maximilian said to her, "There's news about Laura."

"Finally, some news." Katniss asked, "What happened to her before? Was she hiding?" Maximilian briefly explained Laura's situation.

It turned out that Laura had been hit on the head that night and had lost her memory and gone mad.

It was only after Oliver reported her missing that the police found Laura, who had lost her memory and gone mad, on a secluded street.

"Where is she now?"

Katniss was shocked to learn that Laura had lost her memory and gone mad.

"She's been taken to the hospital," Maximilian said, seeing that Katniss didn't have much of a reaction, and continued, "I heard she has a lot of injuries, as if someone deliberately hurt her."

Given the severity of her memory loss, it was clear that the person who attacked her was ruthless.

The two quickly rushed to the hospital and soon saw Laura.

Laura was indeed mad, looking completely abnormal.

She had many injuries on her face and body, which had been bandaged. "Laura?" Katniss looked at her in this pitiful state, feeling a mix of emotions.

Laura, lying on the bed, seemed not to hear her voice, playing with her fingers in a daze.

Katniss called her a few more times, but Laura didn't respond much.

"Oliver should be here soon," Maximilian said, holding Katniss's hand softly.

The police had informed him first after finding Laura, but since Oliver was the one who

reported her missing, he wouldn't be far behind in getting the news.

Sure enough, before they could say much to Laura, Oliver rushed in.

He was accompanied by two police officers.

The two officers greeted Maximilian, clearly recognizing him.

"Laura!"

Since learning that Laura had been attacked and didn't run away on her own, Oliver

had come to terms with her sneaking out of the airport.

He assumed Laura didn't want to leave because she couldn't bear to part with him,

given the consequences she faced after staying.

She had been hit on the head, and the attacker was likely trying to seek justice for his daughter, Clara.

Laura initially didn't react, but upon hearing Oliver's voice, she went completely berserk.

She jumped off the bed and lunged at Oliver, scratching his face and neck.

Oliver was stunned, frozen in place until Laura bit into his flesh, causing him to cry out

in pain.

Laura's crazed behavior not only shocked Oliver but also startled the two police officers, who quickly tried to pull her away.

However, Laura continued to bite and scratch Oliver, as if trying to tear his flesh off!

Oliver, unprepared, was bitten and scratched in many places.

He cried out in pain and fear, "Laura! Laura, it's me, it's me!"

But the more he spoke, the harder Laura attacked, as if she hated Oliver deeply.
